QR Code generator
Generate and download a QR code for a URL (or just plain text), and customize the background and foreground colors.
About QR Code generator
Turns a URL or any text into a QR code that you can download as an image, with your own colours and error-correction level. It can also read the content of a QR code from an image.
When you would use it
- Creating a code for a link, a Wi-Fi password note, a contact, or an event page to print on a poster or card.
- Making a branded code with your own foreground and background colours.
- Reading what an unknown QR code points to before you open it, by uploading or pasting a screenshot.
How to use it
- Enter the text or URL in the Text field; the code updates as you type.
- Optionally change the foreground and background colours and the error resistance level.
- Download the image. To read a code, drop an image onto the reading area or paste one with Ctrl+V.
Things worth knowing
- Error resistance levels low, medium, quartile and high allow roughly 7%, 15%, 25% and 30% of the code to be damaged and still scan. Higher levels make the code denser, so keep it low for long text.
- Keep strong contrast between the two colours, and keep the foreground darker than the background. Low contrast or inverted colours fail on many scanners.
- Longer content creates a denser code that needs a larger print size. If a code scans poorly, shorten the text, for example with a short link.
- A QR code stores static content: once printed it cannot be changed. Both creating and reading happen in your browser; images are not uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
- Why will my QR code not scan?
- Common reasons: too little contrast, too small a print size for the amount of data, a missing blank margin around the code, or a very high error level on long text that makes it too dense.
- Does the code expire?
- No. The code simply encodes the text you entered. If it points to a URL, it works as long as that URL does.
